Formerly called E 14th St, this area has been renovated and turned into a three mile area of town where you can find lots of good Latino and Asian food and festivities.
Rockridge is a great place if you love to shop for upscale items. It centers on College Ave, and goes runs from Broadway clear to the UC Berkeley Campus. You can find clothing boutiques, bookstores, vintage record shops, pubs and cafés, and several fancy restaurants.
Lake Merritt is Oakland’s scenic centerpiece, and a lovely area to go for a job, take a stroll, or just relax and watch the migratory birds and waterfowl that frequent the 155 acres.
Chabot Space & Science Center
In Eastern Oakland you will find the Chabot Space & Science Center, which is a hands-on science museum in Redwood Regional Park. If you consider yourself as a science geek, don’t miss this museum. It features one of the largest telescopes that are open for public use where you can seek out the stars and planets and much more exhibits.
Head to the waterfront to go to the Farmer’s Market. It’s a tourist oriented shopping area where you can find chain restaurants, well-known stores, and gift shops. A great place to take a stroll and look aroud.
Located at Lakeside Park, on Lake Merritt’s eastern shore, the Children’s Fairyland appears to have been the inspiration for Walt Disney’s Disneyland. It’s best for the little ones who are sure to enjoy its charm. There is a place where you can also rent a paddleboat to paddle under the downtown towers in Oakland.
